Porsche Boxster S

Porsche Boxster S

I must confess I never really knew that much about Porsche other than what I’d seen or read about in the media. Being a petrolhead, I of course knew what all the techy stuff meant. But if I’m being totally honest, I always thought they all kinda looked the same.

The Boxster was launched as an affordable, entry level model to the range. And the 2.5 litre, mid-engined, flat 6, quickly became a very popular choice among ladies and hairdressers! With its excellent fuel economy, and superb handling

Unlike the 911’s of old, in the days before computer assisted traction control, where one corner taken too ambitiously could lead to you and your passenger being peeled from the side of a tree, the Boxster was a tamer, more gentle beast.

This Boxster S though is something else; the cockpit is well equipped, if a bit cramped.

And this model has the 3.2 litre, flat 6, and extra bodykit to aid aerodynamics. Believe me when I say “they are not just there for show” this little puppy’s got grunt as well as a fantastic growl.

While no one really looks twice at you in a Porsche the way you would get lots of attention in say a Ferrari, this particular model does stand out from the norm.

…especially when you open her up!

As it’s only a 2 seater, you’re not going to find anywhere to squeeze in the kids, or the family pooch, but boot space is decent enough. And should be just right for a couple of overnight bags, should you want to whisk someone away for a naughty weekend!?

I wouldn’t want to go too far in one, because the seating position is a little too upright for my liking and I could see myself leaving the car looking like Igor from the Frankenstein movies! But the ride is comfortable enough thanks to decent suspension, brakes are excellent (ask that little cat I didn’t squash!), and even the fuel consumption on this model was surprisingly good.

“So if a 911 is a little out of your price range, then the Boxster S could be just what you’re looking for”.
